Royal Victoria Hospital - Donation to the RVH Foundation

ARCOM is working with the Royal Victoria Hospital on a multiphase project to refresh their existing network and build a new network in their expansion. The expansion is a 3 year project that will double the size of the hospital and create a new cancer treatment centre with 4 radiation bunkers. We are replacing the core, distribution and wireless networks with state of the art IP routing, switching and wireless equipment from our partners at Brocade. This will be one of the most advanced hospital networks in the country when completed. It will provide connectivity for administrative applications, clinical applications, patient records, IP phones, IP bedside entertainment systems, building controls, WAN, WAPs and a range of hospital equipment.

ARCOM has also made a generous donation to the RVH Foundation, which was set up to fund requirements of not only RVH, but the large catch basin it serves. Below is an excerpt from their website

“The RVH Foundation is an essential partner in providing exceptional care in the Simcoe-Muskoka region. The Foundation supports the Royal Victoria Hospital with the necessary funding to bring urgently needed state-of-the-art medical equipment, facilities and health care programs close to home.

In 1982, the Foundation was established to provide funding that would improve patient care - whether through medical equipment and technology, operating projects or capital projects. Over the past 25 years, the Foundation has successfully fulfilled its mission through the purchase of millions of dollars worth of medical equipments including a CT Scanner and Angio/Interventional equipment. When the region outgrew the old hospital in downtown Barrie in the mid-90's, residents rallied around RVH and contributed over $15 million through the Foundation to build our new, state-of-the-art facility.

In early 2005, the Foundation launched an ambitious capital campaign to fund a large expansion - an expansion which is vital to the quality of health care available to the region in the future. The goal of the Foundation is to raise the $35 million necessary for the Expansion including the Simcoe-Muskoka Regional Cancer Centre. Click here to learn more about the I Believe Campaign.

We are looking forward to the next decade and the continued developments and growth for RVH. With your help and financial support, we will continue to improve the quality of health care available in our community - close to home.”

Value Added Reseller Agreement with Brocade

As a result of the Brocade acquisition of Foundry Networks, ARCOM has signed a new VAR agreement with Brocade. This is an exciting merger, offering ARCOM’s customers access to a much broader suite of products and services. This moves ARCOM into the data centre where we will be offering SAN infrastructure solutions with Brocade products. We also anticipate much closer relationships with Brocade’s business partners; IBM, EMC, HP and Hitachi Data Systems. Brocade has the critical mass to provide complete IP and fiber channel solutions to major customers. ARCOM complements Brocade’s solutions by providing our customers with design, implementation and support.

ALS Golf Tournament Participation

ARCOM supported the 1st annual ALS Charity Open Golf Open held on June 27th at Linacy Greens Gold Club in New Glasgow. The event was a huge success with $6,000 raised in support of the ALS Society of Nova Scotia.

Here are some highlight notes from the event organizer, Kenny Edison of Bell Aliant:

  • Golfers and volunteers enjoyed a 30 degree, beautiful sunny day - we couldn't have ordered a better one!
  • 4 trips (yes 4!) were given away at the event. 2 for Rodd Hotel and Resorts locations in PEI (Crowbush and Stanhope) were won by folks in the New Glasgow area and 2 for resorts in Cape Breton were won by Bell Aliant employees Paul Robichaud (Keltic Lodge) and Susan Fear (Keltic Quay). Congratulations to both of you! Special thanks to Rodd Hotels and Resorts for their wonderful donations.
  • We had 'loads' of food and prizes! This would not have been possible without the support of our Premier Sponsors, Bell Aliant and Sobeys. Fun to note: when the planned 120 hamburgers showed up, we realized Sobeys made a mistake and gave us 14 cases of hamburgers instead of 14 boxes....the result? Nearly 1000 hamburgers... oh the scrambling to get them all on ice.
  • Kevin Duffy (30 handicap) hit a tee shot within 13 inches of the hole (172 yard, par 3 #13) to win Closest to the Pin. Playing partners Sheldon MacDonald, Tom Reyno and Rob Lane could be heard screaming a mile away. An investigation is now underway to determine if Mr. Duffy's success was attributed to the use of performance enhancing drugs.
  • A putting contest was needed to crown the winning team. 2 teams tied for 1st place with an amazing score of 16 under.
  • Most importantly, we all learned more about ALS and the wonderful work done by the ALS Society of Nova Scotia.

Again, thank you all for your support over the past few weeks. We look forward to a bigger and better event in 2010.

Kenny
